Siena, Italy
Siena was about 30 miles away from were we stayed. We got there late morning and parked our car outside of the old city. Normally, we like to use the guidebook (by Rick Steves) for parking instructions. Once there, we used a set of escalators to get to the major attractions of the city. Siena is considered Italy’s hill town. It is also one of the cities that limits driving in the city center to locals only. Siena is one of the most visited cities in Italy so transpiration restrictions sure make a difference for visitors of this medieval city. We started our Siena getaway with a self-guided walk from Rick Steves guidebook.
Il Campo is a must stop in Siena. The square is known to be the best in Italy. It is literally the center of the city. We saved this stop for last so we could rest there after exploring the city. All other major sites were within 15 minutes walk from the square.
Some breathtaking views from this hill top town.
Imagine this as a parking space for your motorcycle. Living in history.
Siena’s cathedral.
Getting lost in the side streets or a square is a wonderful surprise and a must do in Siena.
We found this interesting trick in one of the buildings. The second column of windows from the right is paint and the rest seemed to be functional windows.
Back to Il Campo for some relaxation and sun. No benches required. People are sitting or laying on the grounds of this remarkable plaza.
Back to the parking garage through the labyrinth of the escalators. We had to leave Siena mid afternoon. The guys drove to the shop in Florence to fix our window from the car break-in in Pisa.
My sister-in-law, Lyuba, Ashley, and I spent the afternoon exploring nearby surroundings by our rental and embracing Tuscany’s sunset.
Another wonderful day and relaxing evening. Another chance to reflect on the daily blessings and give thanks to the One who made it all possible and beautiful.
“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make Him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.” Psalms 19:1-4
